Centro de Interpretação da Batalha de Aljubarrota

In Aljubarrota (near Alcobaça) in 1385 took place the decisive battle that secured Portugal’s independence from Castile and John of Avis as Dom João I the Portuguese royal crown, thus creating a good part of Portuguese identity. The main part of the centre is a very well-designed museum on the history, course and consequences of the battle. As a highlight, you can relive the story through an approximative half-hour feature film (the volume is enormous). There are audio guides in different languages for the museum, the film and the battlefield. A detour is worthwhile for those who are interested! A detailed visit to the museum and battlefield will certainly take half a day, but if you don’t want to spend so much time, you should definitely not miss the museum and film.

In Aljubarrota (bei Alcobaça) fand 1385 die entscheidende Schlacht statt, die die Unabhängigkeit Portugals von Kastilien und Johann von Avis als Dom João I die portugiesische Königskrone sicherte und so einen guten Teil der portugiesischen Identität schuf. Kernstück des Zentrums ist ein sehr gut gestaltetes Museum zu Vorgeschichte, Verlauf und Konsequenzen der Schlacht, als Höhepunkt kann man durch einen ca. halbstündigen Spielfilm die Geschichte nachempfinden (die Lautstärke ist gewaltig). Sowohl für das Museum als auch den Film und das Schlachtfeld gibt es Audioführer in verschiedenen Sprachen. Für Interessierte lohnt sich ein Umweg! Ein ausführlicher Besuch von Museum und Schlachtfeld dauert sicher einen halben Tag, wer nicht so viel Zeit aufwenden möchte, sollte aber jedenfalls Museum und Film nicht versäumen.
